Infected....

The Girl has been complaining about a sore throat for a few days now, and being the good mother that I am, I shrugged it off thinking it must be related to the chlorine in the pool. (Yea, that's the ticket...) Before her 5:30 AM swim practice, I took the flashlight and looked down her throat. Oh my. There seems to be a throat tissue colored little pea sized attachment on what I think is her tonsil...I am not a doctor, but I don't recall seeing that before.

Yesterday morning, once I got everyone off to school I called the doctor's office and scheduled an appointment for her. They had room for her at 11:30.

Shuffled the day to pick her up and get her there for the exam. The doctor asked the regular questions...then looking in all the orifices of her head asked all the right questions. Then he looked in her throat and said, "Yep, throat infection."

"But," I countered, "She hasn't run a fever."

"It isn't strep," he tells me.

Oh. That is good? Or should I be more worried? At least with strep I know what to expect and the treatment expectations as well.

While he was talking to us, he mentioned that this antibiotic he was prescribing for her throat can be taken long term for her skin as well. He gave us a secondary dosage instruction for the post-throat-infection use to help her skin clear up. He mentioned it because he was concerned about the acne scarring her face. So far so good, but he was concerned if it doesn't clear up soon it will permanently scar her skin.

OK. Antibiotic it is.

This morning, she is up at 4:30 AM trying to puke. Well, not trying like she is anorexic, but like when your stomach feels ill and your head knows the best thing would be to get it out and your body doesn't want to throw up. You know what I mean?

So she is home today resting...already slept several hours...and no sign of more puking. So far so good.

If there is no fever, could this be swine flu? How do you know? I think we'll take it one day at a time and play it all by ear. My ear, not hers.
