Titanic Goes On and On

This weekend marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.  Recently, I read a report based on Twitter strings, that many people--I'd guess mostly young adults who have grown up having watched Jim Cameron's film from 1997--didn't realize the Titanic was an actual ship that sank, killing 1500+ people. I don't know why this surprised me. But it did.

It is rather telling that so many people get their "news" from the entertainment that they choose. Sadly, you can hardly tell the real "news" from the entertainment anymore...like that Larry O'Donnell piece (and his pathetic apology) from MSNBC.  But I do worry a little bit that kids--including my own--don't really see the need and interest to study history, or even current events.

Many of the kids I see, especially if I try to talk to them about current events stuff, want the info in 140 characters or less.  They don't see the need to delve any deeper to understand the parameters to which new legislation reaches, or the unintended consequences of a Supreme Court ruling may create.  Our world doesn't work that way.  And it certainly seems so biased one way or the other, it is difficult to get both sides of a story told accurately.

I feel for these kids.  And worse, I worry for our society.

In the meantime, the rush of Titanic remembrances--including a pretty great on on the National Geographic channel I caught up with last week--might spark a little interest of days gone by.  Before we know it, these will be days gone by too.  I hope we can learn our lessons well enough to do better in the future.

Wax On--Wax OFF

Today I got my eyebrows waxed.  I love that just waxed feeling.  Very smooth.  Very sleek.  Zero maintenance.  But here's the thing. (CAUTION: TOO MUCH INFORMATION ahead.  Be warned.) I also did a bikini wax.  That I have never done before.  But a very similar sensation--after the fact.  Smooth, sleek, low maintenance.  At least so far.

There are just some things I want to ask God. You know, like "Why the wild hair growing program down there?"  See, summer is coming and I want to live at the pool.  And this new landscaping plan should allow me to jump into the swim suit and just go.  Previous summers I have to think about it, plan ahead, shave with enough time to deal with the after effects, and then arrange for a suit to cover the red bumpies that always seem to show up.  This new plan should alleviate all of that.  Now it will just be "Want to go to the pool?"  "Sure! Let's go."

I'm here to let you know that I did not swear or even scream throughout the ordeal, though there were regular reminders to breathe.  And if all goes as well as I'm hoping, this could be the new use of my "me time" every month or so.  Definitely beats shaving.

Enough said.

Ch-Ch-Changes

Uploaded from the Photobucket Android App
Please excuse the crack-a-lackin...We've tried to tell him that is isn't cool.  But ya know....

Today was a rainy day, therefore a perfect day to replace the old french doors on the dining room, right?  Genius Golfer seems to think so. And, voila!, the kids have their "Mom's Choice" chore of the day.

It was a good day to head off to the temple and later a movie with a good friend.  Mom's day off; the rest of the family working hard.

Your Children Want YOU!

Your Children Want YOU!

Click the link and  read a tremendously uplifting blog post from April  Perry, a woman I have never met, but admire greatly after reading her thoughts on mothering.

My kids wiped off baseboards and dusted the interior doors throughout the house for their Mom's Choice Chore of the Day.  But I hope they also felt how much I loved them and was proud of them as I took them to Krispy Kreme for the "Donuts for As" program with their stellar report cards. Spring break gives us the chance to do both kinds of memory makings.

I Think Today's The Day

Genius Golfer said he'd help us with the higher windows TODAY!  So our quest for clean, summer sunshine-worthy windows is on.  But without the early morning class, The Girl is still asleep, and The Boy is too--though he has no good excuse; he is usually an early riser.

Late nights?  Pashah!  We are getting our windows clean if it is the only thing I do today.  And it just may well be.

Spring Break Means Spring Cleaning

This week is the kids' Spring Break...well, mostly.  The Girl still has her 7 AM college class M-W-F so she can't sleep her life away after all.  But since she was up and at 'em today, I gave the kids both a series of chores that they needed to do before any funny-business.  If even fun, of any kind.

I'm such a meanie!!

But already this morning, they have got their laundry done, their rooms "deep cleaned" (this definition varies from one room to the other...and from one cleaner, usually The Boy,  to the other, but I am satisfied after looking under beds and in closets he did just fine for now) and the pile of rotten dead leaves swept up, bagged and trashed from off the back patio.  They even power washed the grossest corner where the most leaves gathered.

Ahh.  Spring cleaning.  I love it!

I still have the outside of the windows on the docket this week, but will need Genius Golfer to do the ladder work for me on that one.

Video Easter Sunday

The tomb is empty and thus my life is full.

How I love Him ! And revere Him. I strive to do His will and fail all too often. But He picks me up, dusts me off, and helps me try again. Surely He is the God of Love.

For He has borne my sorrows, my sins, and my grief.

I invite you, all of you, to come unto Him and enjoy His peace, His calmness in the midst of chaos and sorrow, and the warmth of His love. Bend your knees and seek Him out. You will feel His cleansing power.

He IS risen.
