Each Christmas eve, at least when the kids were small, we would include a special dessert to help the kids remember that we were really celebrating the Savior's birth. we'd have "birthday cake for Jesus".
I didn't realize that the kids noticed this "tradition" much less, as The Girl said, "It's my favortie thing we do."
Whether its because we love cake, or because she loves Jesus, I don't know but I'm glad she liked it enough to remind me to do it.
She looks unsure of the whole idea here.
And here she looks more than normally awkward.
THERE we go. That's a more normal girl.
When she got it out of the fridge, she mimicked in her best Nacho Libre accent "Dees are de Lord's Cheeeps." Then added gher version, "Dees iz de Lord's cack."
It was funny, if you were there. And if you'd seen Nacho Libre lately.

Playing Catch Up
Being sick most of December kept me from posting several things that we did while The Girl was home from college. So I will attempt to catch up this week before the next BIG event happens here. But you'll have to wait for that one.
Putting up the Christmas tree.
I already blogged briefly about the Viking Tree the kids did this year. Or at least, they were the ones that encouraged that kind of holiday blaspheme. But here is how that sad situation happened:
Fluffing the pieces.
Beginning the assembly.
Adding the height.
Deer in the headlights moment for The Girl....that is just funny.
The Boy avoiding a picture. I thought we were past that stage with him, but I guess not.
Ha ha, I got him.
Genius Golfer supervising the white plastic monstrosity and my camera flash giving me fits.

Does this REALLY Count?
You know the old saying that goes "You want for your kids better than you had it"? When I was a kid, there was a very popular brand of shoe called Vans. They had quite a few design options, but thanks to the movies Fast Times at Ridgemont High these were THE ones to get:
I never had a pair. Now I think I survived just fine NOT ever having these shoes. I mean, look at them! But, they were a brand name item and they were pricey and I never had any. Boo hoo.
Fast forward 25 plus years. Well, like my mom wisely says "Everything old becomes new again": and over the holiday break, The Boy went to the mall with a friend and came home with a new pair of Vans. His are caramel brown suede that lace up, but he loves them and they still have that most important feature of all:
They are REAL "Off the Wall" Vans. And he loves them. Se la vie.

Dragging, And NOT The Fun Way
We are all getting back to "normal" around here today. The Girl is back in Logan at school ready to start another semester. The Boy just left for school, having grunted at me as he pulled the door shut behind him. Genius Golfer was out of here really early, so we might get to see him tonight. And I am getting myself together to head out to work in a few minutes.
Too bad there isn't some kind of post-vacation treatment I could take to get right back into my regular routine. so far I haven't found anything.
Let me know if you have something that works for you. I'd like to try it.
