Let's Do The Time Warp Again

How can it be Saturday already?  What is wrong with this picture?

School ended this week, exhaustion enveloped me, slept longer than I should and still took a nap, like a bad mom I didn't make the kids go to the last hour and a half of school Thursday, had a Seminary Council Parents' meeting, YW presidency meeting and Girls' camp field trip, and neighborhood end of school BBQ, while kids both at camp outs, and Genius Golfer is...well, golfing.

I guess that is how that happened.

What's Wrong with Sunscreen?!

The Boy left for school this morning, excited to be going.  Only he wouldn't be at school for long.  Today was the 9th graders' day at Lagoon, the local amusement park only slightly better, a bit cleaner, and less white trash than a county fair (from where I grew up).  Disneyland, this is not.

It is supposed to be about 80degrees today...a perfect forecast for a day of fun away from school, hanging out with friends, playing on rides all day.  Except that I insisted he let me spray him with sunscreen--along the backs of his knees and neck.  I tried for the rest of him, but he was put out, that I would even insist.  It got so irritating that I told him if he didn't let me spray him, he wasn't going.  That finally made him give in.

Good crud!  You would have thought I was asking him to let me pin a note on his shirt, like they do with kindergarteners, that held his contact information.

I hope he comes home in a better mood.  And I hope he isn't sun burned.  But I did my best to avoid that.  It is up to him now.

Another Difference Noticed

Today I had several seventh grader-moms coming to the junior high to help with the Seventh Graders' End of Year Party/Activity.  You can tell that for most of these moms, this is their oldest child.  I was asked questions about "What station do I need to run?"  Or "When do they rotate stations?"  You see most of these ladies were assuming that 7th grade end of year party is like an elementary school field day.

Oh, no, no, no.  It is much easier than that.

In fact, the only "station" we really had was a Battleship Water Balloon game set up that worked in about 50 kids each run--and with water balloons involved that station was always full.  Other than that the kids could play dodge ball--they had two playground kind of rubber balls to use, or three friz-bees, or a football.  Or we had music playing-The Girl was our DJ, and did great, by the way!  And most of the kids sat around or hung out with friend, enjoying the sunshine and the hour they had to themselves out of class.

Certainly, a difference between PTA at the junior high, and the PTA at the elementary schools.  And High School, PTA is even easier, I mean, better!

Sick...

I've been in bed all day today...with the chills and sweats, sore throat, stuffed up head and pounding sinuses.  It must be another cruel trick of nature: When you have the day off, with nothing prescribed to do, nature knows to make you sick on that day.  Phoowie.

Video Sunday

While "Where the Wild Things Are" is certainly a favorite too, I loved this little book-"Chicken Soup with Rice"--as a girl.  I fondly remember checking it out over and over form the library.  And who wouldn't like Carole King singing the lyrics to Mr. Sendak's illustrations?!

A fond farewell to Maurice Sendak.  May he find his supper waiting, and still hot.
