In checking our fridge's contents and realizing that we are going to be out of milk before Monday, I trekked to our local Costco and faced the early-Christmas-shopping and lunching-on-the-samples types who hang out on Saturday. Holy cow!
I guess I should not be too critical, as I did find a perfect gift fro Genius Golfer, and bought it.

Post Halloween
Since Genius Golfer didn't dress up--he barely made his way upstairs yesterday--and The Boy was too "cool" to dress up for school and is too old to go trick or treating, someone around here had to hold down the fort and show show Halloween spirit.
Groovy, huh? I'll tell you the Afro wig was so tight it gave me a headache, but I held on and made it through the pitiful numbers of trick or treaters we had last night. I didn't even go through a whole bag of candy. WHAT?! That has never happened.
Well, once I got my groovy self down, the rest of the night was far out! Besides the wig, it was like wearing pajamas. I'm cool with that.

Anticipation Nearly Causes an Accident
Coming home from work last night I pull closer to a 4-way stop sign intersection, behind a little import sedan. Now, generally people at this particular intersection in our town as quite lovely and polite, but last night it seemed everyone was "cutting in line". The guy in the sedan in front of me nearly got taken out by a delivery truck who didn't give the cross traffic a turn and jumped in for himself.
Once the delivery truck cleared, I figured the sedan would go and we;d get back to a normal 4-way stop rhythm. Good thing I gave myself just a teeniest bit more space--because just as I thought I could safely pull forward to the pole position (you know, where I'm next to go) the little sedan hits his brakes. Well, I hit mine as fast as I could and just missed bumping into him.
The sedan finally eases into the intersection--where, buy the way everyone was waiting for HIM--and made his way through. YIKES! That was too close.
Come on, people! Practice the rules we learned (or were supposed to learn) in driver's ed. My kids are better drivers than some people!

Guess Who Came For Dinner
We had some company last night for dinner:
Cousins Bryce and Garett came over after they golfed with The boy and Genius Golfer yesterday afternoon. These boys crack me up--and they crack each other up, as you can tell.

It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Well, not really the GREAT pumpkin, but my Primary kids were all VERY excitable yesterday at church about Halloween, candy, dressing up, candy, trick or treating to my house and candy. Man, they seemed like they were already on the sugary high.
One of our lone boys said he and his brother were dressing up as the guys from Duck Dynasty. I'll be watching for that one, just to see how they look. The girls were the usual fairies, princesses, witches, etc. We'll see how it all turns out for them Thursday night. If they are anything like The Girl used to be, she could still change her mind two or three times before the actual dress-up night.
I do miss Halloween for kids though. The Boy isn't dressing up and we have no parties to go to this year so no dressing up for me, I guess. Probably not the most professional thought for work. And for all the work they required, I miss making Halloween costumes.

Blogging Fail
I have aspirations to write every day. But real life doesn't always factor in time to do that. So I apologize.
This past week I had 40+ hours at work--even with only working a half day on Monday so I could attend the PTA meeting at the high school. I closed every day this week, usually by myself.
A mammogram started out the possibly worst day at work I have had since I started--though calling Genius Golfer for an emergency mango smoothie helped a great deal. I had a digitalized file misalign itself spontaneously on 20 embroidered shirts before I saw what had happened, as I was worrying about the name, thread color and getting the right name on the appropriate sized scrub top for those 20.
The Boy finished his ACT prep class that I paid for him to attend, and took the ACT yesterday. But when I asked him if the class helped, he told me "no and that he still thinks he probably didn't do really well, and that the whole thing sucked".
The Girl called one night this week and talked to me for an hour and a half trying to understand the Affordable Care Act, the situation in Syria, and details of the government shutdown. She has a final in her block class for Honors Scholarships and Grants and their two-part final is a "mocktail party" with professors and other adult mentors wherein she must "cruise and schmooze" and then, the next day, she has an interview by a panel of these same mentors and professors who are free to ask her about her academic goals, her past experience, her course work and current events. She needed clarification on some things, but talking about these things just made me more irritated at the world.
GG had an "interview" with a group that is creating a database, mobile app and website for weights & measures technicians for the state...one of the partners is in our neighborhood, but they were really having the other partner meet GG to see if he'd be a good "plan B".
I did get to see a movie with my Dear Friend Amy yesterday. We saw GRAVITY on the IMAX-3D screen. I'm not generally a 3D fan, but this was really well done....and incredibly intense. I caught myself holding my breath throughout the movie.
I know it isn't a great excuse. But there are days when blogging about my stinky life, isn't worth revisiting the stink itself to write about. Does that make sense? I'll keep trying, and hope this week is better than last.
