Communication Takes Two

I had a breakdown of communication that reared it's ugly head this morning.  Our Young Women are beginning their volleyball games today.  The schedule was set August 25th and then revised (as it always seems to be) on August 31st.  The adjusted schedule was a full week and a day before now.  Yet one ward STILL showed up at the original time...six hours early.

After a few phone calls back and forth, it was determined that the YW president either didn't open the new (now more than a week old) email or didn't pass on the updated information to the girls and their sports lady in the last 2 weeks.

It is so frustrating to me when I know I have done my part to disseminate the information and try to give everyone the correct info in plenty of time.  But if someone chooses NOT to receive the information, and worse--then blames me for not getting the word out--causing everyone else to shuffle around their days to make it fit again that sure sucks the joy out of this job.

The lesson here is to either do other people's job (not the option I prefer) or realize that people can be pretty stubborn and that has nothing to do with me.  I just feel bad for the girls that were there to play and now have to come back this afternoon.

This Racket is Ridiculous!

The Girl is taking some more concurrent and distance-ed courses this semester to finish her Associates Degree along with her high school diploma.  One of her classes is a psychology course.  The course description sounds very fascinating.  But she has had a hard timing tracking down the book.  so I told her I'd do some hunting while she was in school yesterday.  I found it.  This is what it looks like:

It isn't the greatest shot, but  I think you can tell this is essentially a glorified magazine.  And it  cost *cough* *choke* $88.  Yes. That is right.  $88.  This is a 2nd edition, so the 1st edition, which The Girl found online for about $7 wasn't the "right" book.  Yikes.

The only upside that I can find here--about the book situation, at least--is that the used book sellers were very insistent that she sell it back to them when she's done with it.  Let's just hope there isn't a 3rd edition out by then.

What a Difference...

A new kidney can make....

Some rest can make...

Good support and friends can make...

Commitment to each other can make...

A phone call can make...

A miracle makes.

Here We Go Again

The Girl didn't seem too worried about being asked to homecoming this year.  Maybe she learned that lesson when she wasn't asked last year.  But for whatever her reasoning, she seems lukewarm about it.  Until Saturday night.

Saturday night The Boy had about 6 football friends over to play ("Mom, we don't 'PLAY', we hang out!"), or I mean, HANG OUT in the hot tub and then play/hangout some football game on the XBox.  About the time I started thinking, "Aren't these boys going home?" there was a very assured knock on the door.  The boys weren't bothered by the knocking--all their buddies were already in the house, so it wasn't for them.  So The Girl answered it.

There was a delicious berry peach pie with a simple note...inviting her to homecoming. (PS--I am not sure what happened that the invite photo is turned sideways...it was right as I imported it...but you get the idea.)

Devan is one of her Trek "brothers" and they have known each other all their school years.  They went to elementary together.  He is a delightful boy and super fun.  The Girl made the comment that she was glad it was someone not from "their group" because it takes some pressure off.

That made me wonder what kind of pressure "their group" was exerting, but let's not think of that.

So then she had to answer him..and it can't be just a simple phone call to say "Yes".  So she decided to make him a pie.

Her favorite kind of pie is a Key Lime, thanks to a deliciously good one Uncle Joey makes regularly.  So The Girl spent the morning backing key lime pie--and ended up with 2 pies and a dozen tarts.  Apparently I had the 'wrong' kind f prepared graham cracker crust.

After her last day of work yesterday (the pool closes for the season after Labor Day), she and good pal Megan delivered her answer.

Guess it is a good thing we found a few dresses when we did.  But those photos will have to wait a few weeks.  The Homecoming Dance is Sept 22nd.

Work to Do

It is Labor Day, but that means little around here.  I have already got two loads of laundry going, changed the sheets and towels, made a grocery list, worked up an electronic teacher's survey for PTA and helped The Girl get 2 key lime pies and a dozen little key lime tarts made.  (She got asked to homecoming with a Berry and Peach pie, so she wanted to answer in a similar way.)  More laundry awaits, of course, and so does the grocery shopping.  But I have one more weekend project I am shooting to finish today.

Genius Golfer has been building a website for me to try to sell my cards...I think he is crazy, but he insists that my "cards will sell, there is money to be made out there and why shouldn't I get a little?"  We'll see.  I'm not holding my breath.  But in the process of building this site, and determining how to best market these little things, he wants me to "design" sets--so he can put the sample online so people know what they are getting.  I prefer the surprise of opening a pack of cards and not knowing until I see them in my hands.  But the internet buyers must thin the opposite.

So I have to weed out  photos from the thousands that I have taken since going digital in 2005 that I think will make a good set.  So I have to look at not only the season of the photo, but the color, orientation (portrait or landscape), what color cardstock I'd put it on so they aren't all purple, for example.  I have 8 categories and he wants 5 or 6 sets of each.

I have my job cut out for me today.  Labor Day....indeed.

Sunday Video

The Boy is #6, the kicker, on this Sophomore squad last Thursday night.  This play kept their game a shut out.  The Boy made all 7 of his PATs too.  Good times!
