Three of These Things Belong Together....

Do you remember the song from Sesame Street?  "Three of these things belong together, and one of these things just doesn't belong...."

Can you tell which three belong together?

Yep...all three of us belong together today, at least.  We share today as our birthday.  Two out of three isn't too bad, right?!?

Youth Confernce

Note:  The camera came home yesterday with no obvious signs of distress--only a newly cleaned sensor and a record of another 38K + photos since last time.  Feeling much better.

Today begins our ward's youth conference.  The Boy was on the committee for planning this three-day event but will miss today's activities because of football.  He isn't the only one, as we have four boys in our ward who play for one of the HS teams, but he was the only one of those that was a member of the committee.  I guess that is a lesson he needs to learn better. (I'm crossing my fingers for the trek committee.  He could really use that!)

The whole theme of the weekend is family history centered.  I think that is nice, but our ward sure seems bent on pounding this into us.  I've been taking the Family History class for Sunday school--by request.  And while I have done the assignments I haven't given it my all because I just don't seem to have time to do everything we are lacking.  (Amendment: I have been in the class long before the Olympics began on TV...and I know I have had lots of TV time this week....but that is different.  Right?!)

I am not sure if it is our bishop or the whole ward council who sees the Family History as an issue our wards needs to take care of, like, yesterday.  That is a little mystery to me.  But the youth will be marinated in family history activities all weekend.  Maybe The Girl will get the itch to do some research too.  She already goes to the temple once a week for baptisms--but just does the temple's names.  She gets the importance of it, but hasn't jumped on the research-bandwagon.

I guess, here's hoping.

Genius Golfer is with the kids throughout the conference.  That is one of the perks of being self-employed (as we like to call it here).  He has a pretty free schedule....besides the golfing.  And event hat he has put on hold for a couple of days.  That is serious, for him.

Feeling Disarmed

Last week I took my big Canon DSLR into the camera "Doctor" for the annual check up and cleaning that I wish I would have started doing sooner.  This little camera repair place in Provo is a family owned and operated joint with a darling, if (on occasion) a little curmudgeonly, married couple.

They work on all sorts of cameras, but since Nikon has decided no aftermarket repair parts will be sold, their work on Nikons is sliding steadily.  But I have a Canon so that is not my problem.

I have been without it now for a week and two days.  The little couple went back east Tuesday to see a new grand-baby, making what would normally be a 24-turn around into a much longer one.  I didn't realize how much I use the camera day to day.  Sure on big occasions, like, a Girl's 17th birthday....I'd assume to use it.  Man I missed it yesterday.

I will be calling today, as I haven't heard from them at all, to see if the camera is perhaps done and waiting for me to pick it up like a child whose parent is late getting to day-care.  I feel bad about leaving it, but I know it is a necessary procedure.

Sort of like when The Boy had his tonsils and adenoids removed and I have to leave the poor little thing alone with the surgical team who knocked him out and  ripped them out and left him breathing dragon-like bad breath.  But that is another story.

Here's hoping I get my camera back home, and in renewed condition, today.

Times Flies....

How long ago was this photo taken?  Yeah, I thought last week too.  But today is The Girl's seventeenth birthday!  How is that possible?!?  She has brought our family so much joy and happiness, and forced us to learn things I would have rather not learned but needed to anyway.

Happy Birthday to The Girl today.

If __________ Were An Olympic Sport...

I spend about 16 days every four years in a perpetual state of "couch potato-ness".  And I love it.  Thus no post for yesterday....well, that and I have tried not to be on the computer on Sundays.

But today it dawned on me that if LAUNDRY were an Olympic sport, I could have medalled today.  You know, I could have easily qualified in "speed folding" and "stain removal" or even "sorting".  Oh yeah, I can go for speed and artistic impression.

Sadly, the closest I'll get to this is the Olympic coverage I watched as I did the laundry today.
