Saturdays are getting old. I have so much to do over a weekend, and never enough time to do them all. Then Sunday rolls in and I have stuff I have to have ready for the morning--teaching Primary does that to you--and then before I know it I am facing Monday head on.
How does this happen EVERY week?
Laundry, shopping, cleaning, projects. All these need to be done, but I want to play and have a relaxing weekend--not a chore-filled end to my chore-filled week at work.
I guess this is the part of life my mom tried to teach me wasn't fair, so I should just suck it up and get on with life. But it doesn't make me like it any more.
So much to do, so little energy and interest to do it.

Sight Seldom Seen
Since I started back to full time work, there is one glorious sight I miss seeing each week...
Look at that beautiful EMPTY laundry basket. I just don't see that enough any more. I used to see it about once a week as a sign that I had been productive and diligent. Now, it is more a memory that a reality. But I did see it on Saturday. For a couple of hours. It was gorgeous.

One Of The Four Letter Words
Our FHE lesson last night was on work. Can you tell it was my turn to give the lesson? I used the line from the Proclamation on the Family that says "Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on
principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love,
compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities."
They hate it when I use that kind of revelation against them.
Together we made a list of work project that our house and the surrounding area need this summer. I asked the family to commit to me that instead of watching hours upon hours of Netflicks episodes of old sitcoms or Discovery channels shows or whatever else they have been doing for two weeks of summer they would do an hour or two of these projects each day they were home. Now that I'm working every day it is overwhelming to me to think of this stuff piling up and I dno't have the hours in the day to do it with them.
Here is the list we came up with:
* help Dad fix the sprinkler system
* power wash the exterior of the house
* pull the dandelions in the lawn
* level the dirt by the shed
* keep lawns mowed/trimmed/edged regularly
* paint the laundry room?
* scrub the cabinets in the house
* cleans the blinds in the house
* add end-caps on the pergola?
* build ramp for the shed
* get rid of the pile of recycled bricks (give away or haul away)
* make trip to the dump
* clean windows inside and out
* dust cobwebs off ceilings and corners
* wash & vacuum all the cars
We'll see how it goes. And I'll be sure to keep you posted. Wish us luck.

If __________ Were An Olympic Sport...
I spend about 16 days every four years in a perpetual state of "couch potato-ness". And I love it. Thus no post for yesterday....well, that and I have tried not to be on the computer on Sundays.
But today it dawned on me that if LAUNDRY were an Olympic sport, I could have medalled today. You know, I could have easily qualified in "speed folding" and "stain removal" or even "sorting". Oh yeah, I can go for speed and artistic impression.
Sadly, the closest I'll get to this is the Olympic coverage I watched as I did the laundry today.

Change of Plans
My "to-do" list today included some yard work that was desperately needed, some housekeeping, cleaning a bathroom, and making it to a wedding reception for a dear friend's darling son.
Instead, I got up to an empty house--not a good sign. Come to find out The Boy had an early morning football practice, and The Girl made it to the end of a morningside for the Youth Conference she's been attending for our ward this week. Then Genius Golfer told me to start unloading kitchen cabinets. He was going to paint.
We had bought paint this week, and I had hoped we'd get to the actual painting of the front room and kitchen this weekend, but it feels like at least a week since GG and I talked about anything beyond who needs to get where and when to pick them up again. I now understand that the painting will extend tot he upstairs hallway, and the family room as well. Good to know.
So, the kitchen is no unloaded into the family room. The excess stuff that was waiting int the front room was taken to DI this morning. I took everything off walls and GG washed them right behind me. Now he is taping off all the windows, outlets and counters that aren't supposed to be painted. And it is just after 3 PM.
In the interlude this morning, I did get some big monster weeds pulled from the front yard that made the house look like it was being foreclosed. (It isn't.) And I did get our bathroom scrubber (which it needed). So now GG will do the painting. HE likes to do it as I am a hindrance, apparently, to his method.
The rest of my afternoon and evening will include taking the kids where they need to be and picking them up and filling int he middle section of those two with a drop in at my dear friend's son's wedding reception after all. Just won't be cooking for a few days, unless I try to BBQ something and we eat on paper plates.

Multi-tasking 101
For today's post, I'd like to publicly express some appreciation to some helpers I enjoy each and every week. They make my life so much more enjoyable and, in all reality, they get a lot done around here.
No, I am not talking about Genius Golfer and The Boy or The Girl. I'm talking about my washer and dryer, my computer and my car.
Today is a catch up day. I had big plans to get a lot of stuff done yesterday as it was the first day of school, but instead I enjoyed a longer than usual lunch with my girlfriends, who were also sighing a big one filled with relief for school beginning again.
Today, then, I am doing our laundry, The Boy's laundry (how DOES he get so dirty?!), running hither and yon doing errands all over the place, and transferring some video tapes for a friend so she and her family can watch their family movies on DVD. I can do all these things--plus post this blog today--because of the wonderful machines in my house, and garage.
A couple of old guys stopped me at the Gas 'n Sip this morning to ask me a little about our little natural gas car. I get a kick out of that. But they were right when they were sure that I "must love it right about now"! I love that it gets me where I need to go and it is so much cheaper than anything we have. Did I tell you we made it from West Jordan to Manti and back to Pleasant Grove with a little to spare this weekend on one full tank of gas that cost $5?! Awesome.
If you have ever taken your kids to the Pioneer Village in Salt Lake City they can have a chance to try clothes washing with a wash board in a tub. The kids LOVE this...because they are only TRYING it. I love my washing machine and the dryer. I love that this is one job I can do each week and actually SEE my accomplishments at the end of the day--until someone puts their pajamas on and throws their dirty clothes in the baskets again. But, I do see it for a few hours each week. And that kind of accomplishment feels good.
The computer? Perhaps my favorite household appliance. I love that it helps me get work done, no really--I mean, like PTA or YW stuff. I love that it gives me information from the Internet, no matter how crazy it might sound to a Liberian. And I love that I can stay connected to friends and family through email. And this blog? I love having a place to vent, write, express, explain, or just muse and where others can critique it with a little comment.
With all that love of housework (a term used very loosely here), you'd think I would get more done each day. But there is something I have come to learn after these many years of practice: When multitasking, you much still pace yourself. Yeah, that is what I am doing...pacing myself.
