Yesterday the kids and I took Dear Friend Chris for a post-surgical outing up the canyon to Midway. I'd been telling her about this great little place to eat we discovered a few weeks ago on our last Girls' Camp visit trip--that also happened to be my birthday week. Angie's Pantry was delicious and charming and sassy and, did I mention delicious? So we headed up to enjoy some lunch and a change of scenery.
Before going to lunch we visited the Homestead and got a look at the crater there, where a group was prepping for a scuba diving lesson.
Then we popped over to see what flavors of gelato were out today at Zermatt's little pastry shop. One scoop a piece was a perfect lunch appetizer. Yumm-OH!
Then back to town for Angie's for lunch. We pulled in parked and headed for the door. Locked. What?! Yes, the doors were locked. I heard myself say "If they are closed on Thursdays I'm going to be seriously disappointed."
We wandered to the Conoco station next door and Chris went in to ask about Angie's place. As she did that I saw the sign. "Closed for Business". WHAT?! Just two weeks ago I had lunch here with my friends and it was fabulous. I even came home and wrote an online recommendation on a travel site--thinking people ought to know this little gem was up there before they come up for Swiss Days over Labor Day weekend.
There was no sign on her business readying to close two weeks ago. How can this be?!? Much less, I was really ready to eat there today! I was so bummed.
Instead we tried a placed called Cafe Galleria or something. It was disappointing, besides just not being Angie's.
So the moral of this story is this: When you find a place you like, either go there right away, or don't talk it up so much to your friends. It might not be there when you go again.

One the Road Again
This afternoon we are headed up the canyon to take Dear Friend Chris for a post-surgical outing. Her big surgery was almost 2 1/2 weeks ago, but her recovery is planned for 4-6 weeks. She has been reading and watching movies and taking short walks as she regains her strength.
The kids are not working today so they are coming up with us. I'm thinking a quick spot of lunch and a stopover at the bakery with the most delicious gourmet cupcakes ever! That is making me hungry already.
Then tonight is Back to School night at the junior high. I get to go schmooze as the PTSA president and maybe encourage our parents and students to join. Or maybe not. It has been a hard sell this year.
Good thing I have today's canyon trip to look forward to and to fortify my spirit. PTSA is a tough job--especially after three days of registration--but someone has to do it. And this year it is me.

Report on the Museum Fieldtrip
His final class meeting is Wednesday and then he is done with his Aviation Merit Badge. Yeah. Then he and I will need to dig in fast for his play practice and to memorize his part. A mom's job never ends.

Off We Go....
I am dragging the kids and several friends to the Air Force Museum today. It will finish off The Boy's aviation merit badge requirements. It is about an hour away, but it is free! We will see how things go, then I'll be sure to post a photo.
I'm just glad The Boy is interested enough in Scouts yet that he will do whatever merit badge we can sign him up for! This one is through a class the space Center at our school offers. He's up for Geology there next, but he has a conflict with one night's class-his play performance is the same time. Ooops. We may have to shuffle things for him to complete both. I'll keep you
posted.
Have a great weekend!
