Could've Used The Company

While I don't begrudge The Girl going away to college, I had a pang of missing her yesterday when I attended a darling boy's mission farewell by myself.  I didn't feel like I was out of my comfort zone, as this boy is in our stake and I feel like his mom is a dear friend.  I have other friends in his ward who I love and miss seeing since my release from the stake YW presidency and my withdrawal from daily the high school PTA volunteering.

I just missed having here there to see another one of her friends off to serve the Lord.  The more of that you see, the more buoyant your heart feels.  Dexton is a wonderful example of being yourself, and still being true to what he knows is right.  Plus, as his mom and I reminisced after the meeting, it just doesn't seem that long ago the two of them had after-kindergarten play dates.  My, time does fly.

But The Girl called to check in and she is still having a marvelous time.  She and roomie, Kate, are a bosom pair and have embarked together as new members of the Cement Canoe Club as well as the Society of Women Engineers club.  She said they also joined Habitat for Humanity, but she isn't sure what that entails yet.  I reminded her she was at USU to go to school.  She reminded me that she is going to her classes and doing just fine, thank you very much.

It isn't that I wish she were home.  She is just where she should be, doing just what she needs to be doing.  It would just be nice to have a pal to tag along with to these wonderfully uplifting missionary centered meetings that will be a regular occurrence over then next two years--the comings and goings.
