PTSA at the high school is a different animal than the elementary (for sure!) and also the Junior High! After spending last year at the junior high where we had a small but solid core of moms that wanted to help out, I am loving the high school where many more moms (and dads, at times) want to help out.
The big difference though comes in the help that is needed. At the Junior High there was always something I could do to help them--the administrators and faculty could come up with things if they thought about it that we could do to help. At the high school, there seems to be far less that they need us to do--partly because there are nearly 2000 students who are capable (and some more than willing) and others who are required to do things that PTA would do at the other schools.
I sat in my first Admin meeting yesterday with the leadership of the high school, listening to them discuss issues form the first week of school and decided this was like a city council and they had a great handle on their "little city".
I'm gonna love this job!
