I am heading off to a PTA board meeting today to sit in as a referee, should one be needed. This local PTA president has done things by the book, with professionalism and courtesy but there is always someone who wants their own agenda followed and is willing to do whatever they feel is needed to have their point taken.
The point, in this case is a "sugar-free school". There is a parent who demands the PTA and the school in its entirety cease and desist from giving any food rewards of any kind. And she wants it done yesterday.
At least this person is a paid PTA member. We have had others who like to complain and won't even join the group, but want us to change the way thing go. But in this case, she is an actual member.
I don't really anticipate needing to throw my (hardy and significant) weight around but I will if it comes to that. As the council president, I feel very "mother bear" like for my local presidents. And I don't want anyone messing with them. We are all volunteers here and no one is doing this for their own ego inflation. We are in this boat to support teachers and school and provide added educational and extra fun opportunities for our students.
Why can't people look for the good, celebrate that and then look around to see how they can help improve the situation without sinking the boat in the meantime?!
