Target Sighted

As you look at this picture, you can see that just above The Boy's eye, on the left, just below his temple, he has a funny looking bump. He tries to hide it with his shaggy hair, but it is there. According to a dermatologist we saw with him a few years ago, it is called a "lipoma". Essentially it is a fatty pocket attached to the underside of his skin.

We have an appointment this morning for a different dermatologist to see about getting it removed, again. This is the consulation appointment, so we will see. Either way, The Boy is very anxious about this.

A few years ago when we saw the other doctor to have it removed, the doctor gave him a shot to locally numb the spot, then sliced a .25-.5 inch incision and using thin, long tipped tweezery things pulled the fatty bits out through the incision. The Boy was awake and totally aware of the yanking and pressure being exerted on his face.

[Fat must like to stay where it is....What am I saying?! Of course it does. I have personal evidence of that. Duh.]

This, remember, is the kid who preferred the happy gas at the dentist's office for his six month cleanings!

Thus we are seeing a new dermatologist.

This is a naturally occurring, thing for him to learn to deal with. The first time, we understood the doctor that if he "got it all" it wouldn't grow back. Apparently all his picking, poking and wrestling with my child's face from the bottom of the skin didn't "get it all".

The first dermatologist seemed to have differing priorities that should have sent up red flags. It looked to me like a shee-shee, puu-puu office, for one. Then he was advertising laser work and therapies to restore skin texture, etc. in the waiting room. Maybe he had a plastic surgeon for a partner. I guess I should have known better, but that was the guy our insurance at the time allowed us to see.

Dang insurance.

We'll try this guy today. He is a little older, more grandfatherly. Maybe The Boy will like him better. Maybe this doctor will knock him out first. Then we'd both like him better.

Shauna- Adam has several of these all over his body and has had several removed...they don't always come back in the exact same spot they do always come back...or...maybe he just get more? It's getting worse with age. Hope it goes well for Cameron! Adam has some nasty scars from the removal of his.

I had a "medical day" too. Dang insurance and Dang Dr.s. I sure hope that this Dr. will have some good answers for Cameron. Kids his age need a real confidence booster, I think. Keep us posted.
