What DOES that mean?

I've had a couple of people ask about the title of my blog. Without saying it, I got the question--in a literal sense--was more along the line of "Do you really think you are that much better than everyone else?" and less "Gee, what an enchanting name. Where ever did you get it?" OR even less shrouded, "What does that name mean?"

So, here is the explanation everyone has been sitting on the edge of their seats for over the past two weeks.

The name 'Celestial Circle' comes from a mockery, in it's origin. Fourteen years ago we moved into our home on this little cul-de-sac as the fifth or sixth family in a set of ultimately eight homes.

Not long after our moving here the ward boundaries were redrawn (welcome to Utah) and the ward callings were reorganized as well. Now, while our little circle was not 100 percent active at church, is was close. At one point in the ward, and with only the eight families living in our circle, we had members in presidencies of all the auxiliaries and priesthood quorums in the ward living as neighbors in one cul-de-sac.

Other ward members whom we loved, but who not so secretly wanted to live here too, began referring to our end of the street as "The Celestial Circle". Of course, this is a name given in jest. It's like calling a little brother "Booger" or a big sister "Stilts" or a crazy old auntie, "Crazy Old Auntie".

Our neighborhood took the teasing in stride, thinking that at some point we'd all be released from our church callings and we'd be back to normal. Well, 14 years later, we have still have had a heavily weighted and disproportionate amount of individuals with callings in the Bishopric, Relief Society, Primary and Young Women presidencies, Elders Quorum and Young Men's presidencies. Our representation in the High Priests group has dwindled, but only because those eligible for those callings are serving in the Bishopric or the Singles' Ward in the stake.

So, when you check in on my blog and see the title glaring at you from the lily pond photo, just remember the name is only as serious as the nicknames you might have had as a kid, or those you gave to your siblings and friends. The difference here is, I share it with 7 other families--each of whom I love and admire. So bring on the teasing and the mockery. We can take it. You, You, Big Nerd!
